Back in Lubbock :(

I hope everyone had a happy holiday this last week because I know I did. Here is a summary.

Wednesday I drove home to my parent's ranch in Fredericksburg and helped with some chores around the house.
Thursday (Turkey Day) I did a short road ride to get my appetite going to chow down with the family.

Friday I was supposed to ride the new mtb with Mike, but he never called me back, so it was just another road ride but a long one through the hill country. Then that afternoon drove to SA and went to the Spurs game with Brad (Team Solar Eclipse Director), unfortunately they lost to the Bulls.

Saturday was the Ride to Save Your Hide charity ride but the weather had other plans and rained....hard. 12 people still showed up and rode in the rain but only did the short route of 25miles. That night was lets say....very interesting. Brad, Jimmy, and I, along with some of their friends went out to eat to celebrate Jimmy and Billy's birthday at Ruth Chris Steakhouse followed up by going to Silo (a bar in SA). At Silo I was working on my second beer when a guy proceeded to push Jimmy in the back, well Jimmy turned around and they both started sizing each other up waiting for the other to throw the first punch, well before any fists flew the bouncers separated everyone and threw us out of the bar for making trouble that we didn't even started. But the funniest part to me was the fact that this was the first time I was ever thrown out of a bar and it happened to be with other cyclists who were all over the age of 40.

After sleeping in on Sunday, I drove back to Lubbock. At about Sweetwater I was met by a dust storm.

But closer to Lubbock it cleared to show off all of the beautiful scenery of west Texas.

Happy Thanksgiving

Since I don't go out much I thought I would give you all a glimpse of me out at the bar with Chelsea and Matt.

But its not like I don't enjoy going out with friends, its just riding for four to five hours then going and drinking never really sounds like fun, especially when you get up the next morning to do another ride.

One great thing about this week though, its Thanksgiving. I get to leave tomorrow (Wednesday), eat some good home cooked food Thursday, go ride with Mike Healey on Friday at Tapatio, hangout with friends in San Antonio on Saturday while volunteering for the Ride to Save Your Hide charity ride, but then unfortunately return to Lubbock on Sunday.

So you won't hear from me again until next week, so have a Happy Thanksgiving, and if anyone wants to join in on the mtb ride on Friday in SA give me a shout (806-239-1680). Posted by Picasa

The Hot Sauce

Its a little fuzzy, but yes indeed, it does say "Bike tires scare me". But tell me, since when has Taco Bell put quips on their hot sauce?

After a long day of base riding in cold wind maybe a little hot sauce will warm me back up.

TTU vs. OU Gameday

Alright, I admit it after a long year of racing I haven't spent much time working on my alcohol tolerance, hence I was drunk after three beers. After getting a ride home and passing out at two (yes not only am I a cheap drunk but I am in bed before the bars actually close) I woke up to get ready and go to Tech's last game of the year, unfortunately it started at 11:00am. That could possibly be the main reason that only Chelsea, Stephen, and I made it to the game out of everyone at the bar last night.

But apparently there were a lot of people who didn't go out last night since the stadium was at capacity with 52,000 people (1/4 the entire pop of Lubbock), either that or there were a lot of people with hangovers.

I could go over a play by play of one of the most exciting games I have ever witnessed, but if you want to know what happened beyond the fact of Tech winning go to ESPN.

Howeve, our victory was not to be celebrated on the field with the players, at least that was the tone they set by taking down the collapsible goalposts before we could, and lining the entire field with state troopers. 100 State Troopers vs. 52,000 crazy fans the odds sound great for rushing the field and not getting caught, but spending the rest of the day in a jail cell did not sound like fun, and anyways I have to get up early tomorrow to ride, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.

For those of us who failed our high school ebonics class that we took to get a foreign language credit, don't worry Microsoft has yo back...

Even if you don't have it installed on your computer Sager tuned me on to this helpful tool

Maybe I will try my new language skills out at the bar tonight, so if I get shot up by some homies, this might be that last blog ya see. (yeah I know me at a bar what a strange thought, oh well have to have some fun in the offseason). Posted by Picasa

Some Trail Time

Ah, Lubbock. It's flat, barren, dusty, windy, oh yeah and the mountain bike trails are built over an old city dump. However, the trail builders did put the materials to good use.

Cinder blocks, drainage pipes, tires, and misc pieces of concrete give it the genuine Lubbock appeal.

Plus, with the amount of six foot tall weeds in place of trees, you have to stop every once and a while and wonder, where did the trail go?

Man, I can't wait for Colorado.

Weather

I woke up this morning looking forward to a long ride on a nice day

However, by just looking outside the weather can be deceiving. Yes it is sunny and clear, but the temp is 29 with a wind chill in the upper teens. I know I have to get used to the cold so I can ride when I move to CO...... but not today. I hate the trainer, but for today a movie and some time on the trainer will be fine with me. Posted by Picasa
